With the first of P&O’s fleet already in dry dock for an entertainment upgrade – the Pacific Dawn is having P&OEdge Adventure Park added – the line has revealed they will be pumping up the music and special effects for after dark entertainment.
They have mounted a major talent quest for new and existing stars. And they are planning hot new shows in line with the ‘Like No Place on Earth’ marketing tagline with “dreamlike party nights” designed to appeal to new cruising markets.
P&O Cruises entertainment director Brett Annable has just returned from a scouting trip to New York and Las Vegas, during which he was sourcing new interactive party technology.
“We’re looking at how we can bring the latest mind-blowing technology from Las Vegas and Broadway to sea, which is very much in keeping with P&O Cruises’ reputation for innovation.”
“I wanted to see what kind of shows people were hungry for and be inspired by the type of entertainment, special effects, tricks and new technology. This will help us develop our own concepts for P&O’s fleet of ships.
“We want to take entertainment to the next level. For instance, when guests arrive for a show and we want to depict a cold and windy scene, with the use of special effects and lighting, we can make the audience feel the cold even before the performance starts.
“We want our productions to be very different with brand new shows never before seen in any part of the world.’’
Under the review of current shows, themed nights will be replaced with new concepts and shows will be staged at different parts of the ship including the atrium and pool deck.
There are also plans to bring on high profile acts, bands, DJs and other performers.
The line has already introduced new shows on board its three ships Pacific Dawn, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl. They include “Velvet Rope” a 40’s show with contemporary LED screen content and “Disconnected.”
There will be four to five production shows on every ship.
