P&O has introduced 20 new onboard activities to keep guests entertained at sea.
As well as attracting younger cruisers, the initiative is also likely help the company compete with rival cruise line, Royal Caribbean.
As speculated earlier this month, new activities include the Titanic moment –guests can be photographed as Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the James Cameron movie; Flying Fox – a quick way to travel from the Big Screen on Deck 15 to the centre of Deck 12; Midship High Games – race a friend on the cargo nets to the top of the atrium; Aft Funnel Climb – rock climbing the funnel; Laser Tag; and the Bungee Tramp.
So far the new activities have been introduced on the Pacific Jewel. The Pacific Pearl and Pacific Dawn are expected to follow shortly.
Carnival chief executive Ann Sherry told Cruise Passenger Edge activities have “universal appeal”.
She said: “Holidays have changed and people want more adventure.
“We are getting more families and extended families, and there is a thrill seeker as well as a lounge lizard in every one.”
The owner of Pacific Adventures, creators of the new adrenaline activities, John Sharpe told Cruise Passenger that while the ships will have similar activities, they will also be equipped with at least six unique activities.
Although he wouldn’t reveal what cruisers can expect to see onboard the Pacific Pearl and Pacific Dawn, he did confirm activities have been thoroughly tested for safety by 300 adventure experts and crew.
He said: “The idea for the new activities came about as a result of P&O being innovative and needing something new.
“The activities onboard are truly unique because you can’t get this type of adventure on land.
“The sea adds an extra challenge, especially when you’re climbing The Funnel and the ship sways.
“You get that extra excitement.”
Activity costs vary, with prices starting at $19. Guests can purchase value packs of two MAX Adrenaline Activities for $75 and five MAX Adrenaline Activities for $149.
Other onboard activities are the Big Screen Climb – a photo opportunity from the top of the Big Screen; X2 Segway Obstacle Course; Ship Apex Climb – for a bird’s eye view of the ship; Bosun’s Chair Challenge – a swing attached to the top of the Centre Stage Framework; P&O Bow Ladder Climb; and the Kids Adventure Program.
