Philippines to transform eight ports into international cruise hubs
NewsFilipinos can expect to see more cruise vessels sailing in, as the government identifies eight ports to develop into international hubs for cruise liners.
Ports acknowledged by the Philippines Ports Authority (PPA) and the Department of Tourism are those that make up the country’s nautical cruise arteries; Davao; Bohol; Boracay; Cebu; Metro Manila; Puerto Princesa; Subic; and Zamboanga.
According to the PPA general manager Juan Sta. Ana international cruise ports are vital for the Philippines in order to take advantage of rising demand for cruise holidays in Southeast Asia.
Last month, Star Cruises sent Superstar Gemini to Manila for the first time. Other ships sailing in since March 2010 include; a German cruise vessel which docked in Iloilo; Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas to Port of Puerto Princesa; and MV Princess Danae to Port of Davao.
Sta. Ana said: “The Philippines welcomes the growing interest in cruise tourism in various locations around the country.”
