How many dogs does the world’s largest ocean liner carry in her first ten years of service?

Two thousand, according to Cunard.

This year, the line’s flagship Queen Mary 2 (QM2) celebrates ten years in service.

Since her christening on 8 January 2004 she’s sailed the equivalent of three times to the moon and back, carried 1.3 million passengers and visited 419 destinations.

She’s completed 200 transatlantic crossings and called to over 60 countries.

Although newer and larger vessels have entered the market over the decade, she’s still the world’s largest, longest, tallest, widest and most expensive ocean liner.

Cunard marketing director Angus Struthers says QM2 has reigned worldwide and has gained respect and popularity amongst cruisers.

“She has attracted awards, accolades and admiration as the greatest ocean liner ever built for a decade and we intend to mark her first ten years of service in style,” Mr Struthers explained.

To mark the milestone, QM2 will receive a celebratory fireworks display as she departs on her tenth World Cruise from Southampton on 10 January 2014.

Additionally a major 10-year anniversary celebration will begin on 9 May 2014 when all three ships arrive together in their homeport of Southampton. The day will include special sail-pasts, a celebratory lunch and fireworks as all three ships set sail away together in the evening.
