The names were revealed by sand artist Chloe Dickey at Bondi Beach today. They were selected out of 30,000 suggestions submitted through the line’s Facebook page.
Suggested by two separate Australian entrants, they were chosen because they share a common theme that captures the spirit of a cruise holiday.
Carnival Australia chief executive Ann Sherry described the two names are fresh, vibrant and contemporary.
“With ethereal and heavenly undertones, we thought Aria and Eden conjured up the happy, blissful and indulgent spirit of our cruise holidays, which offer the chance to escape the everyday world,” she explained.
Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria will bring P&O’s fleet up to five in November 2015.
They will be transferred from the Holland America fleet and will undergo extensive refurbishment before joining Pacific Pearl, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Dawn.
The five vessels will be based out of Australia, although where they will be home ported is still a mystery.
Currently, Pacific Pearl and Pacific Jewel sail year-round out of Sydney, while Pacific Dawn is based out of Brisbane.
