Norwegian Cruise Lines has received its newest vessel, Norwegian Getaway.

The 3,969-passenger ship was delivered to the cruise line during a ceremony in a shipping yard in Bremerhaven, Germany.

Norwegian Getaway is second of the line’s two Breakaway Class ships. The first was Norwegian Breakaway, which was delivered nine months ago.

As part of the Breakaway-class, the ship features the 678 Ocean Place and The Waterfront – they are interconnected indoor and outdoor venues across three decks, which offer multiplex dining and activities.

She is the first ship to have the SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar where only 25 people at a time are permitted to enter to drink alcohol in a bar entirely made of ice.

She also has 27 dining options including Celebrity Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s Ocean Blue, Ocean Blue on the Waterfront and The Raw Bar as well as Master Baker Buddy Valastro’s Carlo’s Bake Shop.

Norwegian Cruise Lines chief executive Kevin Sheehan said the ship looks spectacular.

“Norwegian Breakaway revolutionized cruising with its Waterfront and strong connection to New York,” Mr Sheehan said.

“Norwegian Getaway will do the same as Miami’s ultimate ship, offering the only way to cruise the Caribbean from Miami with a plethora of incredible features.”

Following the delivery Norwegian Getaway commenced her journey to Rotterdam and Southampton for inaugural festivities. She will then before departing on a transatlantic journey to New York.

The ship’s official naming ceremony will be in Miami on 7 February 2014.
