New cruise passenger terminal
NewsSydney Ports Corporation is inviting public comment on plans for a White Bay cruise passenger terminal. The project, says Annette Woods, Sydney Ports executive general manager planning and infrastructure, would strengthen Sydney’s reputation as Australia’s cruise capital. “A new purpose-built cruise passenger terminal facility will be built at White Bay 5, with a secondary berthing capability at White Bay 4,” she said last week. “The Department of Planning is displaying the Project Application and Environmental Assessment for a minimum 30-day public exhibition and consultation phase.” The proposed terminal would include construction of new purpose-built buildings containing an arrivals hall, baggage hall, storage and amenities area, Customs and AQIS facilities, x-ray equipment, offices and storage facilities. “Following the conclusion of the planning assessment process and subject to planning approval being obtained, main construction on the project is expected to start in early 2011 for completion in 2012,” Ms Woods said.
