Nearing completion

Favolosa reaches full speed in time for a “crash stop” in her successful sea trials.

Taking a new cruise ship out to sea for its first test is surely a great thrill for all involved, so we’re pleased to report that Costa CruisesCosta Favolosa has successfully completed her official sea trials.

While out to sea, the 114,500-ton ship cruised at full speed (more than 23 knots, which is approximately 40 kilometres per hour) for eight hours and also practiced a “crash stop” – when the ship comes to a complete stop while going full speed.

Costa Favolosa is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy. Now that she has passed her sea trials, technicians have the green light to complete her interior in time for her July 2 christening and debut cruise season in the Mediterranean.
