MSC expands fleet with larger ships
NewsMSC cruises has released plans to build up to four new vessels over the next five years.
According to MSC Cruises, they will be biggest ships to be built by a European ship owner, reaching 315 metres long and 43 metres wide, with a gross tonnage of 167,600 tons.
Each vessel will carry up to 5,700 passengers in 2,250 cabins, expanding the line’s capacity by 31 percent.
Features on board will be specially designed cabins for families and an ‘extended’ MSC Yacht Club with a solarium, private lounge and restaurant.
MSC Cruises chief executive Gianni Onorato said new ships will be able to visit most ports and destination.
“The two new ships will reaffirm MSC Cruises’ dedication to outstanding and genuine dining options and out-of-this-world entertainment with new panoramic spaces, a bigger theatre and a spectacular amusement park connected to an outdoor aqua park as well as a two-deck inside promenade.”
The line revealed today that a letter of intent had been signed with ship builders, STX France for the construction of two new vessels, with an option for two more.
The two new ships are due for delivery in 2017 and 2019 and will bring the line’s fleet up to 14.
