MSC Cruises has laid the first steel for its new Vista generation of megaships during a ceremony in Saint-Nazaire in France. The MSC Meraviglia which will be able to carrying up to 5,700 guests, is due for delivery in May 2017 and will be homeported in three European cities; Genoa, Marseille and Barcelona. She will feature specially crafted ‘cluster cabins’ for families as well as an extended MSC Yacht Club. The luxurious area on the prestigious foredecks will be enhanced with duplex suits, a vast solarium, a private lounge and restaurant. MSC Meraviglia will also feature a range of technological advancements such as ‘Near Field Communication’ technology which guests can use to make onboard payments, access their cabins or geolocate children. The ship will also have a 480-square-metre LED screen across the entire ceiling of the vessel’s interior promenade. It will beam out images of day and night. MSC Meraviglia is one of two identical ships which will be part of their Vista class. The second will be finished by 2019 and the third ship by 2022.
