Man jailed on drug charge

A passenger on Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas during the biggest-ever charter for gay cruise travellers has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for dealing drugs on board.

The 5,400-passenger ship was on a seven-night private charter with Atlantis Events (a company specialising in gay travel) in February this year when, acting on a tip-off from a fellow passenger caught in possession of drugs by customs officers in St Thomas, agents searched the cabin of Steven Barry Krumholz, 51.

According to the Associated Press, 142 ecstasy pills, nearly three grams of methamphetamine, a small quantity of ketamine and about US$51,00 in cash were found.

Associated Press quotes US District Court Judge Curtis Gomez as saying that Krumholz used his cabin “as if it was an apothecary for controlled substances”.

Royal Caribbean International has stated that the company fully cooperated with authorities during the investigation.
