Holland America Line has launched a new On Location program that has been designed to bring local culture and cuisine to each of their ships.

Creating a culturally rich atmosphere onboard that rivals the experience in port, a Location Team from the region will either visit the ship or sail a segment to give a local’s perspective to passengers.

“Our guests are global explorers, and the On Location program enables us to offer exclusive and intimate cultural experiences that become an indelible part of the overall cruise experience,” Holland America Line vice president of sales, marketing and guest programs Richard Meadows said.

“With the On Location events onboard, our guests will enjoy ports of call with a deeper understanding of local customs and unique nuances of the area.”

The new program will be rolled out across the fleet by the end of the year with onboard experiences including: stargazing with an astronomer in the South Pacific; learning to tango in Argentina; playing a didgeridoo in Australia; and learning how to hula in Hawaii.

Onboard entertainment will also be tweaked to feature more regional performances including: fiddlers in the Canadian Maritimes; Balinese dancers in Indonesia; and drummers in Polynesia.

Food served onboard will also get a regional facelift when Holland America chefs create dishes with locally sourced ingredients.
