The scene is set: in the port of Brisbane on January 26, 2012, the 332-passenger Paul Gauguin will embark on a 17-night voyage to Papeete – her first visit to Australian shores in, what will be, three years.

‘South Pacific Discovery’ is the name of the new itinerary, which will visit nine islands throughout New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook and Society Islands, retracing the migrations of Polynesia’s early colonists.

Paul Gauguin has operated mainly in French Polynesia since 1998 under the Regent Seven Seas Cruises banner, although the vessel was recently re-established under the new Paul Gauguin Cruises brand.

The 19,200-ton vessel is renowned for her five-star service and fares include most beverages (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic), water sports, gratuities, mini bar and room service.
