The keel for Celebrity Cruises’ fifth Solstice Class ship, Celebrity Reflection, was lifted by an 800-ton crane into a building dock at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany, last week. In keeping with tradition, the 500-ton block, measuring 20 x 36 metres, was placed on a collection of coins – a milestone in an epic construction which will conclude in October next year.

The 10th ship to be built for Celebrity Cruises by Meyer Werft, the 3,030-passenger Celebrity Reflection will be slightly larger than her Solstice Class siblings. An additional deck and the requisite increased width to balance it will make room for 89 more cabins, 45 more theatre seats, 40 more dining-room seats, 118 more Oceanview Café seats and 245 more sun lounges on the outdoor decks – amounting to a total of four tons in extra weight.

Celebrity Reflection will also feature the same Solstice Class dinning and venue changes made to Celebrity Silhouette, launched in July this year.
