Fred Olsen speeding up Internet at sea
NewsFred Olsen Cruise Lines has announced it is building new connectivity infrastructure to give cruise passengers 100 percent Wi-Fi access from any point of the ship.
Currently, Fred Olsen ships are equipped with wireless hotspots in public spaces where guests can connect.
However, head of IT Damon Impett says this isn’t enough for consumers, who want fast and more mobile Internet.
“We do find that the expectation from guests when they bring tablets is quite high because… they have super-fast broadband connections at home,” he said.
“They are coming onboard and expecting the same. That’s one of the challenges: trying to manage expectations concerning bandwidth and speed.
Mr Impett said once the ship is 100 percent wireless, guests will be able to stream their favourite TV shows and upload videos without delay.
