Floating utopia

Yacht Island Design has done it again. Partnering with BMT Nigel Gee, a UK-based leading independent design consultancy, the innovative yacht designer, responsible for such superyacht concepts as Streets of Monaco and Tropical Island Paradise, has generated yet another norm-defying design – and this one looks like it’s straight out of a science fiction novel.

According to James Roy, Yacht Design Director at BMT Nigel Gee, “Visions of the future are often constrained by familiarity with the present or reflection on the past”.

Project Utopia, on the other hand, spans 11 decks, is 100m in length and breadth and has a four-legged platform design that employs the principles of a small waterplane design area to minimise motion in rough seas.  While designed as ‘a place to be’ rather than an object to travel in, each leg contains thrusters for slow speed deployment.
