A Disney Cruise Line executive has confirmed the line is looking at deploying to Asia.
Aboard new ship Disney Dream, the president of worldwide operations of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Al Weiss, has said the line is assessing Asia as a possible deployment in the future.
Weiss confirmed a group has been formed to look in to the potential and opportunities in Asia, saying, “We just have to see how that market develops,” as quoted on the shipping website Seatrade Insider.
Although he did not give any concrete evidence that this could, in fact, come to fruition, the news is another boost for the expanding Australian cruise market as Asia is a close-to-home option for Australians wanting a quick getaway and the arrival of a Disney Cruise Lines ship in the region would open up family cruising for the local market.
Weiss also said that bookings were going well for Disney Dream and the line’s other two ships. In terms of destinations, Alaska is booking ‘extremely well’, he added.
