Details emerge on new Disney ship in Japan – will this be the new go-to for Aussies?

Disney is continuing its journey into Asia, with new details surfacing on its upcoming ship in Japan, which is currently unnamed. This will follow Disney Adventure, which is already sailing out of Singapore and after facing some initial hurdles, has proved to be an early success. 

The initial information on Disney’s upcoming vessel in Japan came from the earnings report of Oriental Land Company, the operator of Tokyo’s Disney Resort and the company that will be managing Disney Cruise Line’s Japanese operations in partnership with Disney.

The new ship will have a capacity of about 4,000 passengers across 1,250 guest rooms and will carry about 1,500 crew members.

New information has emerged about the length of itineraries and approximate pricing. Itineraries will last between two and four nights, with the majority of voyages running as round trips out of Tokyo.

This suggests that Disney is looking to replicate the model it has for Singapore, where sailings are short and frequent, and at least in the case of Singapore, the ship doesn’t visit any ports.

As far as pricing, the report says that prices will range from US$600(AU$850 to US$1800 (AU$2500), this is likely based on per-cabin pricing, as that is the pricing method that Disney uses.

This means pricing for a two-day cruise could start at just over $200 per person per night, which is reasonable by Disney’s standards.

The ship is only expected to begin sailing in 2029, 

Will this become the new go-to Disney option for Aussies?

Ever since it was announced that Disney would be leaving Australia, many fans have been left disappointed and wondering if another Disney local cruise would be possible in the near future.

The silver lining was that the end of Disney’s time in Australia aligned with the inauguration of Disney Adventure in Singapore, which is a comfortable flight away for most Australians. 

However, the introduction of a ship in Japan will offer another destination for Australians that is much closer than going to the USA or Europe to cruise with Disney. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Japan emerge as the preferred option for Aussies looking to sail with Disney. 

Australians already love Japan, with more than one million Australians visiting Japan each year. While Singapore is a popular destination, there is a greater variety of itineraries and options to sail from Japan.

The flight is also only about an hour longer than to Singapore, depending on where you’re flying from. For example, flying from Sydney to Japan takes about nine hours and 50 minutes, whereas Sydney to Singapore is about eight hours and 30 minutes. 

It won’t be surprising to see a huge amount of interest for Australians to fly-cruise to Japan for a Disney cruise.
