Cunard’s portrait of a Queen
NewsRecord-breaking official Royal portrait will hang in Queen Elizabeth’s Grand Lobby.
An official portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Isobel Peachey, the youngest person ever to have painted the Monarch, will be the centerpiece of new Cunard ship Queen Elizabeth’s Grand Lobby.
Award-winning artist Peachey, a 31-year-old from Lancashire in England, was allowed three viewings of the Queen for the somewhat daunting task, and completed the remainder of the painting in her mother’s attic.
It shows Queen Elizabeth sitting in the Yellow Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace, wearing the same necklace and earrings she wore at her Coronation in 1953, jewellery originally owned by Queen Victoria.
The portrait was unveiled at a private event at the National Portrait Gallery in London to Cunard’s praise. However Her Majesty will see the painting for the first time when she names Queen Elizabeth in Southampton on October 11.
Wow, the pressures on for Isobel – what do you think of the portrait?
