Recently announced plan to call in Tripoli in November cancelled due to unrest.

Crystal shuns Libya

As cruise lines sail on by the troubled Middle Eastern nation, Crystal Cruises has joined suit, cancelling its first planned call in Libya this November aboard Crystal Serenity.

Crystal Cruises was excited about offering the new call during an 11-night Mediterranean cruise when Libya relaxed its visa restrictions, said Crystal’s president Gregg Michael. The visit would have been the first in the line’s 22-year history.

But as the country looks on the verge of civil war, 1,100-passenger Crystal Serenity will revert to its original itinerary, which is an 11-day cruise between Venice and Barcelona, departing on November 16.

“Fortunately, we can very easily replace the revised program with our original itinerary, which is rich in European culture, history and scenery,” said Michael.
