Cruise lines have started cancelling port calls to West Africa destinations affected by the Ebola outbreak.
Regent Seven Seas’ has cancelled Seven Seas Mariner’s a visit to Dakar in Senegal on 17 October during a 21-night Lisbon to Miami cruise.
Instead, the ship will spend a night at Tenerife in the Canary Islands and call on Spanish island, Lanzarote.
Fred Olsen has substituted Braemar’s stops in Dakar and Banjul in its November and December itineraries with longer stays in the Canary Islands.
And finally, Seabourn will instead call on ports in Spain during Seabourn Sojourn’s Barcelona to Cape Town itinerary.
Meanwhile, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has maintained its ‘reconsider the need to travel’ advisory for the three most affected countries – Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Other countries DFAT has highlighted as potentially affected countries include Nigeria, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
