Cruise Passenger readers and other cruisers always have plenty to say about what’s going on in Australian cruise, and in the broader cruise community. This week we looked towards Reddit, where a series of users shared their stories of romance on cruise ships, from quick flings to eventual marriages. Anyone who’s been on a cruise ship knows it can be an extremely romantic setting. Whether you’re looking over the ocean as the sunset hits, dining in exclusive candle-lit restaurants or splitting champagne on the top deck, a cruise ship is a beautiful and romantic place to be.
While many cruise with their partner for this exact reason, many others find cruise ships to be a great place to meet people. Cruise ships are a naturally sociable environment, and some ships even run special events for singles.
Given the romantic and sociable setting, it’s no surprise that many cruisers report having special romances at sea, some which may turn into a family and kids, and others which existed just for those few days.

On a recent Reddit post, a series of users shared their experiences of romances at sea.
A Reddit user MilPhickelsn shared his own special story of finding love at sea. The best part: they’re still cruising together!
“I met my now wife on the Norwegian Gem during the week Hurricane Sandy hit. We got redirected out to Boston and stayed on the ship an additional 4 days while Port NY was being cleared.
“We were 25 and 27, cruising with our respective parents/families. We met at the spa raffle and ended up hanging out all week and realised we wanted to continue our relationship long distance between Virginia and Pennsylvania. Married two years later.
“Married 12 years now with a six-year-old son…AND we’re currently on the Celebrity Beyond this week!”
User Ok_Mulberry4331 shared a story of meeting her husband, not as a passenger, but as a crew member.
“Not a passenger but I was a gift shop worker and he was an engineer. It was meant to be a one-night stand, 15 years later and he’s on the living room floor playing with the cat.”
Another user, slay-lady-slay, says both her and her Dad met their partners at sea.
“I met my current partner 15 years ago on an Alaskan cruise.
“My dad met his wife on a cruise we took to Tahiti. My mom had passed a year before and we booked this trip. There was a group of single 60+ women on board and boy did dad have a good time.
“Eventually one lady just made him feel like a kid again and 8 years later they’re happily married.”
User _stirringofbirds_ shared a short tale of young love.
“Aw, when I was in high school I had a little whirlwind romance and my first kiss on a cruise! Great memory! We talked on the phone almost every night for a few months afterwards, but we lived too far apart to see each other at 15, and it fizzled out.”
User One_Abalone_8117 shared yet another tale of meeting a life-partner at sea.
“I met a young, strikingly beautiful Brazilian woman on a cruise nearly 45 years ago. She was 21 — I was 27. I chased her for six years until she finally caught me (lol). She remains the best thing that has ever happened to me.
“We have lived a fulfilling life raising six caring and successful adult children. Grandchildren are washing ashore in waves. We are better together today than ever. Perhaps its all just wonderful luck, but whatever it is — it happens.”
Another user PronatorTeres00 reminded us that not every story ends in marriage and kids, but it can still be enjoyed along the way.
Met a sweet guy at a comedy show on board a Carnival cruise. We exchanged numbers and attended other shows together, but then eventually lost touch after the cruise due to distance (he lived in a different state). He was well-travelled and exchanging travel stories definitely made for fun conversation though.
“Hope he’s doing well, wherever life has taken him since.”
User pp1227 shared a second-hand story of love blossoming from a cruise.
“I haven’t, but I was on a cruise from Tahiti to Fort Lauderdale many years ago, travelling with my mom. We met another mother and daughter pair on a pre-cruise island tour. The daughter ended up meeting one of the musicians on the ship and a romance bloomed. They married a few years later.”
