Costa Concordia rises again
NewsCosta Concordia sits upright in Giglio, Italy once again, as Italian authorities completed the first major step in her removal this week.
The ship’s rotation started Monday morning and cost more than $800 million to complete.
Speaking at a press conference, Italy’s civil protection agency head Franco Gabrielli said the rotation was complete, with the ship now resting on underwater platforms.
He said: “Today we have really taken a clear step to allow the ship to be take away from the waters.”
Mr Gabrielli explained the next step in her removal will require an inspection and technical studies to ensure she can be towed back to shore safely.
