Azamara Journey cruise cancelled
NewsHoliday plans for around 373 Australians and New Zealanders have been disrupted this week after Azamara Journey experienced propeller damage.
The 684-passenger ship was sailing to Kyoto on a 14-night East China & Japan itinerary when crew felt ‘unusual vibrations’.
An inspection revealed one of the ship’s two propellers had been damaged from debris.
The line had hoped to repair the ship before her next sailing. However, overnight the line announced the cancellation of the ship’s 17-night ‘The Explorer’s Asia’ cruise from Hong Kong.
“Unfortunately, due to the time needed to make the needed repairs to the ship, it is necessary to cancel the March 3, 2014 voyage,” the online update read.
“We do not take any decision that impacts our guests’ vacations lightly, and are deeply sorry that this unexpected development has affected those guests’ upcoming vacation.”
Passengers affected by the cancellation, including 227 Australians and New Zealanders, will receive a full refund of the cruise fare paid and a future cruise certificate for 75 percent of the cruise fare paid for the 3 March 2014 sailing.
Meanwhile, the 145 Australian and New Zealanders on board the 14-night East China & Japan cruise will receive air transport to Shanghai where the cruise was originally scheduled to end on 3 March.
Accommodation will be provided until they are able to pick up their original schedule. And passengers will receive refunds for the days of the voyages they will be missing and a Future Cruise Credit certificate of 25 percent the value of their current voyage.
