Cruising in Australia and Asia is set to grow in 2015 with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) predicting a busy year ahead.

CLIA released its annual State of the Cruise Industry report today which predicts that 23 million people will sail in 2015.

The figure is an increase from 21.7 million cruisers who sailed last year and the report shows that cruise lines are enticing more global travellers to sea with new and exotic locations.

CLIA Australiasia General Manager Brett Jardine said the report identified Australia and neighbouring Asia as regions set to experience the highest growth in 2015.

“This year is set to be another big step forward for the entire industry as our members continue to strive to make cruising the best overall holiday experience for Australian travellers.”

Twenty-two new ocean, river and specialty ships will make their debut which adds up to a total investment of more than $4 billion.

The report still shows that The Caribbean still remains the top cruise destination

This year, 52 ships will offer 1,065 Asian cruises which have the capacity to carry two million cruisers.

Specialty journeys also continue to grow in popularity, with sophisticated ships, luxury yachts, elegant ocean liners and the newest river cruisers all continuing to experience double digit passenger growth.

Specialty cruises are set to grow by 21 per cent annually.
