APT’s newest ship, AmaReina has set off on her first voyage following her christening held in Vilshofen, Germany late last week.

The event commenced with a team of Bavarian riflemen fired their guns to salute the new 164-passenger ship before godmother, Princess Heide von Hohenzollem, of Germany, carried out the traditional breaking of the Champagne bottle against the ship’s hull.

The Princess and her family are custodians of the German castle, Burg Namedy, which is included in APT’s ‘Royal Collection’ European river cruise program.

Following the ceremony, AmaReina and her first 164 passengers headed off on the maiden voyage from Vilshofen, Germany to Budapest.

AmaReina is the sister ship to AmaSonata, which is also due to launch later this year.

Both vessels feature twin balconies and owner’s suites as well as public spaces including a heated pool with a swim-up bar, massage and beauty salon and the fitness studio.

AmaReina even carries a fleet of bicycles on board, including electric bicycles, so guests can enjoy Europe’s picturesque riverside bike paths on their own.
