Royal Caribbean has commenced physical construction of its second Quantum-class ship, Anthem of the Seas.

The ship has received its first block as the keel was lowered into place this week. The keel weighed 620-ton and measured 18 by 23 metres.

Anthem of the Seas will join Quantum of the Seas in the Quantum-class when she is debut in mid-2015. They will both feature the first skydiving experience at sea – RipCord by iFly; the North Star; and transformative venues such as the SeaPlex – the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea.

Each ship will also span 16 decks and carry 4,180 passengers at double capacity.

This week, Royal Caribbean also revealed the judges of the world’s first Instagram film festival.

The competition invites people around the world to submit 15 seconds of ‘wow’ moments. The winner will be announced on a Royal Caribbean ship on Sydney Harbour early next year.

The judges selected as some of the most followed Instagramers; Lauren Bath; Pauly Vella; and Tim Charody.
