Antarctica on demand
NewsDespite increased interest in cruising Antarctica, few ships have been able to meet new fuel regulations imposed by the International Maritime Organisation.
Abercrombie & Kent’s chartered ship Le Boreal, however, has been ‘Cleanship’ certified by the Bureau Veritas. This means the ship’s design and equipment significantly control and limit emissions of water and air pollutants and go beyond the MARPOL convention for waste treatment, antifouling or propulsion systems.
In response to demand, Abercrombie & Kent has introduced a fourth departure to its 2012–2013 Antarctica season. But according to Scott Wiseman, president of Abercrombie & Kent USA, LLC, Le Boreal herself has increased demand.
“It’s a new generation of adventure cruising. The sleek, stylish and stable design of Le Boreal has made the idea of a voyage to Antarctica much more appealing to travellers who might not have considered it before.”
