Royal Caribbean International’s Splendour of the Seas entered a dry dock in the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain, last week to start a five-week, US$35 million revitalisation.

An expected 550 workers, consisting of engineers, architects, interior designers, builders and technology specialist will be working on the ship, putting in more than 100,000 man hours.

When the updgrade is finished, Splendour will have a variety of new dining venues (including Chops Grille, Izumi, the Boardwalk Dog House, Chef’s Table and the Park Café) and new passenger amenities (including Royal Babies and Tots Nursery and a Diamond lounge for Crown and Anchor loyalty guests). She will also be sporting 124 new balconies, new stateroom amenities and improved technology throughout. Maintenance work will have been conducted on her propellers, rudders and tail shafts, and her bridge wings will be extended.

The revitalisation is part of a US$300 million program to upgrade Royal Caribbean International’s ships.
