World’s best cruise ship to have a sister by 2013, say Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced it has commissioned the building of a new ship to be the sister of Europa – the world’s best cruise ship, as rated by Douglas Ward’s 2011 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships.
The new ship, named Europa 2, will be in the luxury category of cruising and will be a modern lifestyle alternative to her sister ship offering a more informal cruise experience.
“Europa 2 is the logical further development and contemporary interpretation of a luxury ship and, as sister ship to the existing Europa, will be positioned as a lifestyle-oriented and informal 5-star vessel,” said Sebastian Ahrens, managing director of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
Currently Europa 2 is slated to operate Mediterranean cruises during the summer and will be repositioned during the winter, although Hapag-Lloyd hasn’t yet revealed a schedule.
To be constructed at the STX France shipyard by 2013, Europa 2 will have 258 suites for 516 passengers, giving it the largest space per passenger ratio of any cruise ship, seven restaurants (including a sushi bar), two lounges, four bars, varied entertainment, sporting facilities, gym and spa, and a fleet of Zodiacs.
