Classic International Cruises’ Athena will be the first cruise ship to visit Portland, Victoria, and the second to visit the Limestone Coast town of Robe, South Australia, according the ship’s new 2012/13 brochure.
The ship’s 17 two- to 40-night cruises from Fremantle/Perth and Adelaide, between November 2012 and May 2013, also feature the cruise line’s first Easter cruise in Australia and a new rock’n’roll cruise.
Athena’s first visit to Portland on February 5, 2012, will form part of a new five-night round-trip cruise from Adelaide, on which she will also drop anchor for the first time in Robe, only the second cruise ship to do so – the smaller 106-passenger Orion dropped anchor there in November, 2010.
Australia’s newest cruise destination, Portland is close to the historic fishing village of Port Fairy and the famous Twelve Apostles, while Robe is a popular South Australian holiday destination: surrounded by lakes, reserves, rugged cliffs and wineries, and only short drive from the fossil filled Naracoorte Caves.
