Norwegian Cruise Line announces completion of new marina and dining venue.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s first stage of upgrades at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island in the Bahamas, are now completed – on February 3, the cruise line announced its new marina and dining facility was ready for passengers.
Norwegian Sky’s passengers were the first to try out the new tender and dining facilities when their ship called in at Great Stirrup Cay during a Caribbean cruise. Next up will be passengers on board Norwegian Gem, Jewel and Pearl, who call there during the year.
The marina is 3.7-metres deep and features four docks for the island’s four tenders, while the 790 square metre dining facility has picnic tables to seat more than 500 people, a pizza-making bar, two grills, stations for hot and cold food and two bars.
“By moving the tenders’ arrival to the marina and away from the beach, we have now opened up a great expanse of beachfront for our guests to enjoy and relax. We’ve also built a new large dining facility that is similar to the action station restaurants we have on board our Freestyle Cruising ships,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s president and CEO.
The $20 million constructions began on Great Stirrup Cay in January 2010 and will continue throughout this year with the addition of an arrival/departure marquee, bar areas, a band stand, private beachfront cabanas, a kid’s park, beach volleyball courts and a cruise program activity area.
