Adventure cruise line, Ecoventura, has commenced construction on a new 20-passenger yacht, which the line says will be the most comfortable and environmentally friendly vessel to cruise the Galapagos.

Scheduled to launch on 3 January 2016, founder Santiago Dunn said his goal is to reduce MV Origin’s fossil fuel consumption down to 1000 gallons per week. That’s 45 percent less than the 1,800 gallons currently required on other yachts.

“This is no simple achievement when you consider our plans to sail at 12 knots on two engines so that guests can spend as much time as possible at each visitor site,” he said.

Additionally, Mr Dunn said MV Origin will bring new levels of comfort to the Galapagos Islands.

The vessel will feature ten deluxe staterooms located on the main deck with panoramic windows and private bathrooms.

Staterooms will be spacious at 140-square feet and include two twin beds that convert into a king, two connecting cabins, two triples, fine linens, bathrobes and satellite TV.

Social areas onboard include a warm, wood furnished library; a computer station; indoor and outdoor lounge areas; a sun deck; Jacuzzi; dining room; a fitness centre and a bar.

Local chefs will create meals onboard using local ingredients and the yacht will have an open bar policy.

When she launches, MV Origin will make weekly departures from the island of San Cristobal and sail on two itineraries.

Bookings for her inaugural cruise are now on sale.

The rate for an eight-day all inclusive cruise is $6,500 per person twin share. Cost covers cabin accommodation, all meals and snacks, all beverages including open bar, Captain’s welcome and farewell party, guided shore excursions, services of a concierge, use of wet suits, snorkeling equipment, stand-up paddle boards and sea kayaks, and transfers in the islands between the airport and dock.
