Carnival Cruise Lines says repairs are more complicated than expected.
Although it was thought Carnival Splendor would be operating for the January 16 departure, she is now scheduled to re-enter service on February 20.
A statement from the cruise line says that as damaged parts were tested, more problems have been found, as well as a lack of replacement parts, which are currently being manufactured in Europe.
“We made our best effort back in November to estimate the necessary repair time with a strong goal of not having to modify it at a later point in time. Unfortunately, as the repairs have progressed and we have discovered additional issues, it is now clear that we need more time,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival’s president and CEO.
As with the previously cancelled voyages, all passengers affected by the cancellations will receive a full refund or credit for a future cruise and reimbursement of their travel expenses.
Carnival says those who rebook will get either a 25 per cent discount or onboard credit to use on a future cruise.
