The original cast members of US TV show, The Love Boat, have been appointed godparents to Princess Cruises’ newest ship, Regal Princess.
Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), Fred Grandy (Gopher the chief purser), Ted Lange (Isaac the bartender), Bernie Kopell (Doc, the ship’s doctor), Lauren Tewes (Julie the cruise director) and Jill Whelan (Vicki the Captain’s daughter) will reunite in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to officially christen the vessel on 5 November 2014.
Princess Cruises has had strong ties to the show since it aired in 1977 because the line’s vessels were used as the set for the majority of the series.
The show, which ran for ten seasons, is also credited for helping the cruise industry attract new cruisers and expand to its current size.
During the ceremony, the six Love Boat stars will officially name and bless the vessel before breaking a bottle of champagne on its hull.
Regal Princess is the sister-ship to Royal Princess. She launched in May this year spending her inaugural season sailing Princess Cruises signature Grand Mediterranean itineraries to Corfu, Mykonos and Istanbul.
Following the November christening she will commence her maiden season in the Caribbean.
The unnamed vessel will launch in 2017.
