Holland America has started construction on line’s largest ship to date, with the first keel laid on its new Pinnacle-class ship.

The unnamed vessel will carry 2,648-passengers. That’s 542 passengers more than the line’s current largest ship, ms Nieuw Amsterdam.

The ship was introduced by the line to replace outgoing capacity, when 1,258-passenger ms Ryndam and ms Statendam departHolland America’s fleet to join P&O Cruises Australia from November next year.

Pinnacle Class Keel Laying

As well as carrying more passengers, Holland America chief executive Stein Kruse says she will have new innovations and features onboard.

“We’re excited to see it all come together over the next year and a half,” he said.

The first keel for the 99.500-gross tonne ship was laid in August at an Italian shipyard. She is scheduled for delivery in February 2016.
