The port of San Francisco has awarded Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess its annual ‘Cruise Ship Environmental Award’.
The ship was granted the award due to its impressive air emissions reduction, advanced wastewater management and recycling and disposal programs implemented over the 2010 season.
The award is designed to encourage cruise lines to go beyond environment regulations and industry standards to create environmental initiatives that will improve air and water quality in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Contributing to her emissions reduction, Sea Princess powers onboard services by tapping into shore power facilities when they are available in port.
“We’re gratified that our environmental efforts are being recognized in San Francisco again, especially since we’ve been able to utilize our shore power technology at the port’s new facility,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. “We’re committed to doing our part to help ensure that pristine and beautiful ports like San Francisco stay that way.”
