Evergreen Tours’ Emerald Star may set off on her first cruise in June, but a bottle of champagne won’t be broken on the ship’s hull until later in the year.
Emerald Star is the sister ship to Emerald Sky, which launched in Amsterdam last month.
She is scheduled to set sail on a charter cruise at the beginning of June.
She’ll then become available to Australian cruisers from 14 June on cruises between Amsterdam and Budapest.
General manager Angus Crichton told Cruise Passenger the line is arranging a surprise christening ceremony for its second ‘Star Ship’.
He said the date for the event will be revealed later this year and expects it will be a special treat for passengers sailing on the ship.
The name of the Godmother is also expected to be revealed in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Mr Crichton said over the past four weeks the line has received positive feedback from guests sailing onboard Emerald Sky.
“The thing they have enjoyed the most has been the pool that transforms into a cinema,” he explained.
“It’s not only a place to swim and watch movies, but also an observation deck and people have really enjoyed sitting there with a coffee and enjoying the views of Europe.”
He said over the four weeks, the line has also used guest feedback to make minor alterations to Emerald Star before she launches.
“We made minor modifications, we’ve moved some doors and tweaked a few things but it’s just small changes to improve the flow and movement of people on the ship,” he said,
Evergreen will launch two more ‘Star Ships’ – Emerald Sun and Emerald Dawn – early next year.
