Maybe it’s something in the air, or perhaps the water. Or maybe it’s just that time of year.
Whatever the reason, Cruise Passenger has noticed a huge amount of drydocking going on at the moment, which can only mean good news for passengers.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn has re-entered service today after a multi-million dollar refurb in the Bahamas. While in drydock, the 2002-built ship received 58 new suites and staterooms, a new Brazilian steakhouse (first introduced on Norwegian Epic), a revamped interior and technical modifications.
Up north in Hamburg, more than 1,000 workers and crew recently spent two weeks remodelling Crystal Cruises’ largest ship, the 1,100-passenger Crystal Serenity. All staterooms (pictured) were given new-look interiors, shopping areas were redesigned and the ship was generally “spruced”, according to the cruise line.
And as many of you already know (Sought after Singles, CP May 23), Radiance of the Seas is currently in drydock in British Columbia for a refresh ahead of her maiden Australian season in October.
If that wasn’t enough, Holland America Line’s Maasdam, Eurodam, Volandam and Veendam have been in drydock for periods during April and May. Maasdam’s refurb was part of the line’s Signature of Excellence program, and it included new suites and staterooms, new dining venues and entertainment hubs.
Finally, SeaDream I will finish a scheduled drydock tomorrow ahead of her northern hemisphere summer season of cruises in the Baltic, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. The 20-day overhaul included laying new carpeting throughout, upgrading the jacuzzi and golf simulator, and renewing wallpapers, upholstery and varnishes.
