Cruise West founder has resurfaced with a new idea to re-enter the cruise market.
Dick West, the founder of bankrupt cruise line Cruise West, has reappeared in the cruise market, telling US trade newspaper Travel Weekly that he plans to open a small ship charter company.
It was reported that West revealed his plans at the Travel Weekly LeisureWorld 2011 Conference, saying his new venture would not involve ownership of any vessels but would charter vessels as tour operators do.
“There are a lot of small operators that have one ship or three ships and don’t have a foothold in the US market,” West was quoted as saying.
To be named Explorer Cruises, West said he would be looking at charters in South America and Europe.
