For as little as $19 a day you can snap up a last-minute deal to cruise for 14-nights on Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas from Singapore to Fremantle. But you’d better be quick, the ship sets sail in two days time on Sunday, September 13.
At $267 per person for an interior cabin, all meals, some beverage and all entertainment will be covered – and you don’t have to make your own bed on this Royal Caribbean cruise.
The cruise will call at Port Klang in Malaysia, the resort island of Langkawi, Phuket in Thailand, then make its way to Benoa in Bali, Lombok in Indonesia, Broome, Geraldton before arriving at Fremantle on 27 September.
And if you have the time and fancy returning to Singapore on another 14-night cruise, the reverse itinerary will cost a mere $33 a day or $468 pp in an interior cabin.
Even if you take a shopping trip in Malaysia, a sight-seeing tour in Phuket, each shore excursion will cost the maximum of $49.33 per person. Cheap as chips.
Now all you need is to book a cheap airfare to Singapore.
Closer to home Carnival Cruises has a deal which costs $89 a day if you have four people sharing an interior cabin on Carnival Spirit for a 10-day cruise from Sydney to New Caledonia and Vanuatu which leaves on November 7 or 17. As a sweetener, you will get a $300 onboard credit per cabin.
The cruise which costs $899 per person will call on Noumea, Mare, Lifou Isle and Isle of Pines before returning to Sydney.
But you must book by 15 September.
Further away and for a more romantic cruise on the popular Mediterranean coast, Holland America’s mid-sized ship, ms Zuiderdam is offering a 11-night voyage from Venice to Istanbul for US$64 a night for an inside cabin. The US$699 cruise which leaves Venice on September 26 will head for Greece calling at Katakolon, Navplion, Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini and Istanbul. Visit lastminutecruises.com
While there are great deals to be had, you have to be careful and pick the right last minute deal because there are a number of dud offers around. For US$100 a day, you can go on a 7-night cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii which works out to be US$699 per person for an inside cabin on Holland America’s ms Zaandam. But you have to endure five days at sea before reaching Honolulu. The ship leaves Vancouver on September 20. You have been forewarned.
Despite the falling Australian dollar, increased capacity has made fares to the US especially Los Angeles and Hawaii exceptionally cheap. Flight Centre is offering special deals from Sydney to Honolulu for $511 return, $899 return to LA and $1187 return to New York.
“We sold out of Virgin Airline fares from Sydney to LA for $899 return last weekend – a very good price as it usually costs between $1200 and $1300 return.
“Every now and again we have special airfares but they are snapped up pretty fast,’’ said one Flight Centre travel agent in Sydney’s Lane Cove.
