If you’ve ever wanted to name a ship, now is your chance.
P&O Cruises has sent a shout-out to Aussies to help name the line’s two latest ships.
The ships will transfer from the Holland America Line to P&O and will undergo major refurbishment before joining the line’s fleet in November 2015.
Under the Holland America umbrella the two ships were called MS Ryndam and MS Statendam.
Senior vice president Tammy Marshall said it is fitting for Australia to name the latest vessels.
“We think the time has come for Australians to put their stamp on our ships by choosing their names,” she said.
Although P&O’s six last ships have all shared the word Pacific in their name – Pacific Dawn, Pacific Pearl and Pacific Jewel – the new ship do not have to follow the same pattern.
“We’re looking for names that are modern and fresh and capture the spirit of a cruise holiday,” she added.
“Ideally there’ll be some connection between the names of the two ships, but we’ll wait to see what Australia comes up with.”
Ideas for the new names can be submitted via the line’s Facebook page.
The winning names will be announced on 9 July. The person who submits the best names, along with a theme and a reason for their choice will win a cruise for two on the inaugural cruise on one of the ships. They will also be a special guest at the naming celebration.
