Last week Costa Cruises announced that Costa Fascinosa, the 16th ship in the Costa Cruises fleet, will be named in Savona on May 6, 2012. Along with sister ship Costa Favolosa, Costa Fascinosa will be the largest cruise ship flying the Italian flag. She will also be the first cruise ship to be inaugurated in the Ligurian port city.
The naming event will take place during Costa Fascinosa’s first cruise, which departs from Venice on May 2, 2012. Costa Cruises has invested approximately 510 million euros ($685 million) into the construction of this ship.
To support the resulting increase of ships and guests arriving in Savona, Costa Cruises will continue to invest in the growth of the Savona Palacrociere cruise terminal. January 2012 will mark the start of building work on the second terminal, with an investment worth approximately 9 million euros ($12 million). The new terminal building is expected to be ready by March 2013.
Savona Palacrociere is the starting point for two other major Costa events. On December 28, 2011, Costa Deliziosa will set sail from Savona on her historic “round-the-world” cruise, taking 2,300 guests from all over the world on her 100-day world voyage. Then on February 20, 2012, the port will welcome the first cruise of the Costa neoRomantica, the freshly made-over Costa Romantica.
