Celebrity Solstice has broken the record for the largest cruise ship visiting Newcastle.
She arrived on Sunday 9 March and at 317 metres long, she broke the record by just two metres.
Novocastrians gave her a rockstar welcome and lined Newcastle’s foreshore to which the captain of the Celebrity Solstice responded with a few more healthy blows of the horn.
Mayor of Newcastle Jeff Cloy greeted guests as they disembarked later in the day and a Fort Scratchley gun was fired to honour the ship’s visit.
Newcastle was the final destination for Celebrity Solstice after she completed an 18-night cruise from Perth.
She will return to Newcastle in March next year.
