Australia comes to the rescue in Vanuatu

Carnival is coming to the rescue of Vanuatu by sending humanitarian aid, supplies, pledging money and soon, will be organising charity concerts.
Carnival Australia announced its cruise ships are delivering resources and humanitarian aid to Vanuatu which was recently ravaged by Cyclone Pam.
The Carnival Legend arrived in Vanuatu yesterday, delivering bottled water, a generator and other goods from the ship to Santo.
Carnival Spirit left Sydney yesterday, carrying more supplies for the locals.
Pacific Dawn is expected to be the first ship carrying humanitarian aid to reach Port Vila. She will depart Brisbane this weekend and is expected to arrive in Vanuatu by Wednesday.
The Pacific Pearl will leave on Monday and due in Port Vila next Saturday.
Working with Save the Children, the Dawn and Pearl will also be carrying pallets of food, bottled water and tarpaulins
Later, P&O Cruises will host a number of benefit concerts, with the proceeds devoted to the Vanuatu relief.
Carnival Australia is the biggest cruise operator in the South Pacific and has along with Carnival International has pledged $300,000 to help rebuild the community.
“The two immediate calls are for humanitarian purposes only but they will also enable our Ni-Vanuatu crew on our ships to make face to face contact with their families for the first time since the cyclone hit,” said Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry.
“We look forward to returning to Vanuatu on a regular basis because cruise tourism is so important to the economic wellbeing of the country and its people,” said Ms Sherry.
“We are confident that our guests will understand this knowing that they are playing an active part in delivering help to our friends in Vanuatu.”
It is unknown when the cruise lines will be fully operational in Vanuatu.
Royal Caribbean has also pledged $150,000.
