After nearly a year of construction, Carnival’s Carnival Breeze has been floated out of its dry dock at Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
In keeping with nautical tradition, a silver coin was welded to the top deck of the ship – all part of a ceremony that’s believed to bring good luck. The dry dock was then filled with water before the ship was repositioned to a wet dock facility, where interior outfitting will continue in preparation for the ship’s debut next June.
Carnival Breeze is 130,000 gross tons, 306 metres long and the sister ship to Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic, which were delivered in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
The 3,690-passenger ship will take her inaugural 12-day cruise from Venice on June 3, 2012. A series of Mediterranean cruises from her European homeport of Barcelona will follow, before she makes a transAtlantic crossing to Miami to start her year-round career as a Caribbean cruiser on November 24, 2012,
