On Friday July 29, Costa Cruises gave its newest ship, Costa Fascinosa, a technical launch ceremony at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard.
During the ceremony, in accordance with tradition, the ships godmother, Mirca Pizzato, cut a ribbon and broke a bottle against Costa Fascinosa’s bow. The shipyard basin was then filled with water, connecting the ship to the sea for the very first time.
As part of the tradition, a coin was then welded to the ship (in the area where the mainmast would be if the ship had one) to bring good luck.
The 3,800-passenger, 114,500-ton Costa Fascinosa is scheduled to take her maiden voyage on May 2, 2012. She will feature Costa Cruises’ popular Samsara Spa and a swimming pool area with a retractable glass roof. The design for the ship’s interiors, as yet not complete, was inspired by the world’s great historic films and their creators.
