Avalon Waterways has launched its newest river ship, Avalon Illumination.
The ceremony took place on the banks of the Danube in Vienna with Australian television personality Deborah Hutton acting as godmother.
Illumination is the third river ship launched by the line this year and is the eighth Suite Ship vessel.
The Suite Ship concept is designed for Australasian travellers, offering 30 percent more cabin space than other river cruise ships and has two decks of all-suite accommodation with wall-to-wall panoramic windows.
The ship has a total of 83-cabins onboard and also features a Panorama Bistro, fitness centre, whirlpool, and a Sky Bistro on the Sky Deck for ultimate European views.
Illumination’s christening was conducted in classical Viennese-style, with Viennese dancers performing the waltz.
As the ship took off on her first journey yesterday, Ms Hutton blessed the ship and her future guests.
“May all who sail on this splendid vessel enjoy their voyage and take home with them the joy and enrichment of a shared journey,” she said.
“May she enjoy the warm and familiar welcome of the ports, towns and cities she visits along Europe’s greatest rivers.”
Next year, Avalon Waterways will launch another two Suite Ships – Avalon Tapestry II and Avalon Tranquility II. This will give the line a total of 10 Suite Ships in its European fleet.
