Australian ship builder and river boat operator Glen Moroney’s new “Star Ship” river cruisers have been awarded “Best New River Ships” title by Cruise Critic’s editors.
The stylish vessels have been lauded throughout Europe for their contemporary interiors and innovative pool deck that converts to a cinema.
Cruise Passenger enthusiastically reviewed the launch of the vessels earlier this year.
The Evergreen Tours’ Emerald Star and Emerald Sky took out the accolade in the 2014 Editors’ Picks Awards today.
It’s an important win for Mr Moroney, owner of Scenic Tours, who has taken a big risk is launching a new brand on Europe’s increasingly crowded waterways. The ships have been doing well in the United Kingdom, Cananda and Australia.
Mr Moroney said: “We put a lot of thought into designing and building innovative, deluxe river ships that create an unparalleled experience for our guests.
“We’re very proud and pleased that our never-ending efforts to raise the standards on European river ships have been recognised by Cruise Critic.”
Two more “Star Ships” are due next year. Emerald Sun and Emerald Dawn will take the fleet to four.
Evergreen’s Emerald “Star Ships” carry 182 guests in 72 suites and 20 staterooms, including two built for solo occupancy.
The onboard heated swimming pool with a retractable roof – which transforms into a movie theatre in the evening – is a unique feature among European river cruising.
Evergreen Tours is the exclusive representative of Emerald Waterways’ “Star Ship” cruising in Australia. Both companies are part of the Scenic Tours Group.
