Aqua Expeditions’ new ship, due to be launched last month as one of the most luxurious vessels on Asian waters, has been forced to postpone its inaugural cruise due to delays in interior finishing work.
The postponement is a blow to the young company, which has high hopes of building a strong business in the Asian, despite intense competition on rivers like the Mekong and Irrawaddy.
Aqua Mekong was originally due to set off on its inaugural voyage on 30 September, however a spokesperson told Cruise Passenger the ship will now commence operations from 14 October.
Construction of the vessel started in February this year at a shipyard in Ho Chi Minh. The hull was completed on time in May and the line was expecting the vessel would be ready by September.
The 20-suite Aqua Mekong was scheduled to set off on her first seven-night Mekong River cruise from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap.
Aqua has two other ships in South America, where they have received enormous amounts of publicity for the luxury adventure offering on the Amazon.
